I strongly suggest that you check out ex-mormon websites from the way that you are talking.

Believe me, out of curiosity I have checked out many ex-mormon websites, and while I find them interesting, they're talking about OTHER people's experiences. For ME, I rely more on MY first-hand experiences to form my own opinions.

My main gripe with the Mormons is that they faithfully show up at my parents house each week to collect tithe from my father and grandmother who haven't been to church in over a decade.

I asked one of my morman friends about this and he said that they don't do that in California, but for you to call up the Bishop and tell him that you would appreciate it if they didn't show up. He said it's no big deal...it's like telephone solicitors, you need to just get them off 'the list'.

Your list sounds like my life 2 years ago (except for the "ex" part)... the stress was even making my hair fall out (YIKES). At the time it seemed endless and I was always waiting for another shoe to drop. I have nothing profound to add, only that looking back at that "valley" in my life, eventually life's train took me uphill and things got better.... I find that I can now handle life's little 'surprises' better. There's an old saying, which I know you've heard, but one that I always remember "How do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time" Don't look at everything on your plate ... just take a piece at a time and handle that. Break everything down into the smallest pieces to be coped with...then go on to the next.

As far as your parents health, I'm really sorry. I've lost one of my parents, and the other's not too healthy. That's a toughy...hopefully you have a close friend or friends for support (or even this board....there are a bunch of great 'pals' here). My thoughts and prayers are with you (truly).

Actually, there are many many things I like about the Mormans here in Southern California... I don't think they're kooky at all. When I was younger I attended great rock dances on Saturday nights at their Churches, along with their musicals, plays and softball teams. They never were very preachy to me at all and they DON'T SHUN difellowshiped members. I've talked with several about their beliefs, some very ordinary Christain beliefs like, Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior. They believe in the atonement (they also celebrate Christmas, birthdays and are super patriotic).

I don't think they believe in 7 heavens... but 3 different types of heaven for the various types of people. They believe in hell as a separation from God, but not one that is fire and brimstone or everlasting. Although some of their beliefs are different, I get a kick out of reading how some people put a certain "slant" or "spin" on their beliefs to make them look kooky or sinister. Most the Mormans I know are intelligent people, some who I consider good friends (then there is this other guy name Fredrick...but that's another story).

correct me if im wrong.. now during this time, mankind is supposedly left to rule itself, and fail miserably, thus demonstrating that only theocratic rule can maintain peace, bliss and happiness.. well, i think gods cheated.. in my humble (satanic) opinion, if man is supposedly ruling himself, the god shouldnt be interfering and moulding events.. a big example:.

here is my letter to bill oreilly of fox news.

i used my real name, address, and phone number so if it gets read on the air, everyone will know who freeman is and i will likely be disfellowshiped for apostasy.

and imho, it would be well worth it if it saves just one poor kid.

I am very familiar with how these shows are run, so don't worry, even if he doesn't initially read it, the staff who puts together the show will. It's an excellent letter that contains all the right 'buzz' words. They have a lot of things to consider, but you might get some sort of play. The P.S. was great...that will have impact and put your letter above most of the others.

Birthdays

now as we know the jehovahs witnesses don`t celebrate the "birthday"!

now when a baby is born that is the birthday and if you bring a gift to the new baby, that is a birthday gift hence the birthday is celebrated.

as we know the bible does not instruct that the birthday should not be celebrated so why not continue celebrating the birthday every year instead of the first one as the jehovahs witnesses do?.

Is the GB considered the 12 Apostles?

excuse my ignorance, but as some of you know i've never been a jw.

my question is about the governing board (gb...right?

): since jw's believe that they are the 'church' that jesus set up with his 12 apostles, do they consider the gb the continuation of those apostles?

Thanks for all your posts, very enlightening (but different from new light...hehe).

One MAJOR difference that I can see is the original apostles were appointed (or called) by Jesus personally. Even when they had to replace the neck-streched Judas, the Apostles personally decided on the replacement...they didn't take it upon themselves.

In the past, Jehovah ruled and revealed truths through individuals, such as prophets, kings and apostles. Jesus said that during his royal presence, he would identify a faithful body of followers, a 'faithful and discreet slave'. In 1919 this slave was identified as the remnant of anointed Christians. Since then, as represented by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, it has been the center of theocracy on earth.

Where in the bible do we find Jesus identifying 'new apostles or prophets'?

my dream last night....

i do not want to forget it, so i thought i would record it here.

Every few months I have vivid dreams of flying (without a plane) or jumping several stories high...boinga boinga boinga...just bouncing like a kangaroo, but HIGH or tap dancing all over the place, really good like Fred Astair. I wake up exhausted.

That reminds me...one time my co-workers threw me a birthday lunch and one of the JW's came. There were about 15 of us sitting around a table at lunch time, no gifts, but just a birthday toast,,,etc., no big deal....just a reason for a group of people to go out to lunch together, in fact the birthday was hardly mention. WELL, all hell broke loose. This person acted funny all afternoon and wouldn't speak to me for days. I later found out they had to go to one of their Elders for whatever 'absolution' JW's offer. I couldn't believe it... this person knew that it was a birthday lunch, but I guess felt like they had been hood winked when the toast was made...whatever - it just opened my eyes wider.
